Located near one of the oldest mine sites in the valley overlooking the Pomona
Valley (and the 10 freeway), sits the Pomona Valley Mining Co. This sprawling
restaurant/banquet facility is decked out with rustic woods and relics of the mining
era throughout the site and is the perfect setting for those looking for some good
grub and a spectacular view of the valley.
One of my favorite attractions of this restaurant is their old fashion salad bar
which was popular in the sixties and seventies however a rarity among
restaurants today. For starters, the salad bar features a nice variety of specialty
salads with rice, pasta, and veggies totaling over 38 items along with 2 tasty
soups and great chili and beans. The hot cheese bread that comes with the
salad bar was also fantastic.
Once you have gone through the bountiful bar once or twice, you are sure to be
full but that is just a beginning of more great food to come.
The menu features a variety of steaks, seafood, chicken and pasta dishes that
are large and tasty. We opted to skip the appetizers and went directly to the
entrees. We started off with the Prime Rib $25.95, the Ultimate BBQ Feast
$23.95 and the Chicken Tortellini $18.95. The popular Prime Rib consisted of a
generous 8 oz. slice of perfectly cooked and seasoned prime rib served with rice
and fresh veggies. The meat was juicy, tender and full of flavor. The Ultimate
BBQ Feast was a sight to behold and consisted of ½ half of meaty baby back
pork ribs, a nice size chicken breast and a humongous beef rib that was cut in
half and was full of meat and extremely tender. The only disappointment of the
evening was with the chicken which was a little over cooked and was on the dry
side. Except for the chicken, this dish was a very good choice. The Chicken
Tortellini featured a large portion of cheese tortellini with a rich cream sauce and
lots of tender chicken that was sautéed with garlic and roasted red & green bell
peppers. This was one terrific dish!
Another dish that I ordered and loved was the Glory Hole $26.95. This creative
dish had a perfectly cooked filet mignon topped with crab, fresh asparagus and a
luscious Béarnaise sauce along with garlic mashed potatoes and excellent
sautéed fresh vegetables.
