The New York Pizza Company is a small family restaurant that serves some larger
than life sandwiches, salads, pasta dishes, specialty hamburgers and a host of
traditional and specialty hand tossed pizzas. The interior’s seating has both
booths and tables while the walls are decked out with pictures and a large
panoramic view of New York City.
The restaurant may not be all that large but the menu more than makes up for
the size. From the appetizers list came the Signature Garlic Knots $2.95. This
popular starter featured 5 freshly baked bread knots rolled in a delicious garlic
and Italian herb seasoning blend and a cup of a robust and bold marinara
dipping sauce. They sure were addicting!
Next came the colorful Italian Chopped Salad $7.95, the Meatball Parmesan
Sandwich $6.95 and the traditional Italiano Sub $7.49. The salad consisted of a
large plate piled high with mixed greens, julienne cut ham, salami, pepperoni,
mozzarella cheese, olives, pepperoncinis, tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots. The
balsamic dressing that came with the salad was tangy and the entire salad was a
big hit! The Meatball Parmesan sandwich had lots of homemade meatball (cut in
half), that terrific marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. The tasty
ingredients were served on a crispy hot toasted roll and were good, but I thought
it needed more sauce and cheese. I guess I love messy foods!
The Italiano Sub, like the meatball sandwich, was served on the same toasted roll
and stuffed with sliced ham, pepperoni, salami, provolone cheese, lettuce,
tomatoes, mayo and oil & vinegar. The sandwich flavor profile was well balanced
and was very good.
From the pasta side of the menu came the Penne NYPC $11.95, a delightful
blend of chicken, garlic, roma tomatoes, fresh spinach and sun-dried tomatoes in
a butter cream sauce served over penne pasta. The creamy butter sauce and
the garlicky overtones made this entrée not only very tasty, but quite filling. All
pasta dishes are served with garlic bread and a nice dinner salad.
Since they pride themselves on serving New York style pizzas, I decided to try two
kinds. The Meatlovers had lots of pepperoni, meatballs, ham and Italian sausage
while the specialty Cranberry Cashew Crunch pizza consisted of gorgonzola
cheese, sweet and tangy dried cranberries and crunchy cashew nuts. Both pizzas
were excellent but the Cranberry Cashew Crunch stole my heart. The pizza
dough on the Meatlovers was thin and crisp but the crust on the Cranberry
creation was slightly less crispy than the first one. If you like thin crispy pizza
dough, ask for it.
For those yearning for a traditional burger, the ½ pound Mushroom-Swiss Angus
Burger $7.95 was a nice treat, especially with their fantastic crispy beer battered
fries. If you have room for dessert, their homemade Cannoli with mascarpone
cheese and chocolate chips is a perfect ending to one great meal.
Overall, I was very please with the quality of the food and the caring attitude and
friendliness of the staff. This is one restaurant that your entire family will enjoy!
