Chicken and waffles may not seem like a culinary marriage made in heaven but
after finding and dining at Moe’s Chicken & Waffles in Fontana, believe me, this
marriage will last forever!

Located in a small strip center on Foothill Blvd., this small family owned and
operated restaurant specializes in home style Southern comforts foods. The main
attraction is their fried chicken which is available in many configurations. All of
their chicken is hand breaded in a nicely seasoned flour mix and deep fried when
your order is taken. It should be noted that it takes 20 minutes to fry up the
chicken so if you are in a big hurry, you might want to dine there when you are
not in a rush. As for the chicken, the exterior was extremely crispy, had a very
tasty flavor while the interior of the chicken was moist and delicious. I ordered the
Moe’s Favorite entrée $12.99, which featured one half a chicken (4 pieces) along
with two fairly large waffles that were flavorful and came with pancake syrup. The
waffles went well with bites of the crispy fried chicken and the entire dish really
impressed me.  I love fried chicken and this chicken was sensational!

Another dish that “wowed” me was the Big Daddy’s Favorite $12.99. This
Southern favorite consisted of 4 pieces of fried chicken smothered with yellowish
thick gravy, a choice of two side dishes and cornbread. In addition to fantastic
fried chicken, the gravy was very tasty and was not at all salty like most
smothered gravies tend to be. As for the side dishes, my favorites were the
collard greens, the candied yams with terrific nutmeg overtones, and the slightly
peppery macaroni and cheese.

Other items on the menu that I ordered and enjoyed was the Bigger Better Bacon
Cheddar Sandwich $8.99, large grilled chicken breast served on a roll with crispy
hickory bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo and mustard. The
sandwich was very good as were the crispy French fries. Instead of the red onion
slices, ask for grilled onions. I did and they really added a nice sweet touch to the
other ingredients.

The only item that I tried and did not care for all that much was the Southern
Fried Chicken Salad $9.75. The salad featured iceberg lettuce, corn, tomatoes,
cheddar cheese, red onion, and jalapeno rings. Although you get a choice of
salad dressing, the salad lacked excitement although the fried chicken breast
was as good as ever.

For dessert, I had to a slice of Sweet Potato Pie $3.99 which came from my
favorite specialty bakery in Colton, Mommy Helen’s and like always, this pie was
the Delicious!

Moe’s Chicken & Waffles is kid friendly (has items for children) and offer a daily
special for only $5.99 11 am to 3 pm daily. I have eaten at the more famous
Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in Los Angeles and as far as I am concern, Moe’s
version is much better.
