Giuseppe’s restaurant is hidden away from most of the Inland Empire in a very
small center smack dab in a residential neighborhood, but the food that comes
out of the kitchen is quite amazing. The restaurant features some very tasty
Italian and Persian dishes, all made with fresh ingredients and with lots of love
and passion.
The interior is set in lovely soft earthy tones while soft classical music fills the
airwaves. Ordering food at this family restaurant is not an easy chore since you
have two popular world cuisines to choose dishes from. Despite this obstacle, I
managed to do quite well when it came to dishes to order.
I started out with three Italian favorites, a 10” custom pizza $10.50, the Meat
Lasagna $10.99 and the popular Luigi’s Special $14.99. The thin crusted pizza
featured a choice of up to 4 toppings, and of the 14 different toppings, I chose
olives, Canadian bacon, sweet red onions and green peppers. The flavor and
textures of the toppings I picked and the crisp crust was quite pleasing. The
Lasagna consisted of a large thick layer of 4 pasta sheets each filled with a blend
of ricotta, mozzarella and parmesan cheeses topped with a rich, garlic and herb
laden tomato meat sauce. The combination of the sauce and the cheese mixture
was balanced and delicious. The last dish from Italy (via Upland) was the Luigi’s
Special which featured two large meat balls, an Italian sausage, cheese ravioli
and Eggplant Parmesan. This dish was outstanding and there was enough food
on the plate to share with another lucky soul.
From the Persian side of the menu came the Hummus & Eggplant appetizer
$5.99 and the Beef Soltani Plate $19.99. The hummus & eggplant dish consisted
of homemade garbanzo beans that were pureed and mixed with a sesame paste
(Tehini) and grilled eggplant and onions. It was delicious and addicting,
especially when the soft warm pita bread was used to spread it on. The Beef
Soltani plate was the hit of the evening. Imagine a skewer of tender, juicy and
tasty chunks of filet mignon grilled to perfection and a skewer of a lamb and beef
mixture that was grilled and very flavorful. Both skewers came with a large mound
of aromatic basmati rice and a grilled tomato. The Chicken Kabobs is also an
excellent choice.
For dessert, the homemade Persian Ice Cream $4.99 and Baklava $3.79 are
highly recommended! Giuseppe’s is a real culinary find and is worth trying no
matter where you live.
