Dining at Centro Basco is more than dining on great food, it’s like taking a
culinary trip to the Basque Region which consists of 7 traditional regions within
the Spanish state and 3 within the French ruled areas. With Spanish and French
culinary influences, you know the food is both hearty and oh so good.

There are two main dining components to this restaurant. On Friday –Sunday 7
pm and Tuesday –Saturday 12 noon (12:30 on Sundays), family style dinners
are served up to hungry customers sitting at long wooded tables. Imagine large
platters and bowls of soup, salad, Shepherd’s bread, Blue Cheese, Fries, two
entrees and wine for under $18.00 per person. What a terrific way to meet new
people and be part of the Centro Basco tradition.

The other dining option is eating in their large dining room. For lunch, you can
order a variety of sandwiches and lunch time entrees like roast beef, prime rib,
lamb, pork and veal chops and some salads and pasta dishes while dinner
choice are plentiful. It was the dinner menu that we attacked.

Dinners are served Tuesday –Saturday from 5 pm to 9:30pm and Sunday 4pm to
9pm. All dinner entrees are served with (get this) sourdough shepherd’s bread,
large wedge of blue cheese, sliced beef tongue and tomato appetizer, a salad
with sliced Monterey jack cheese, a tureen of hearty homemade vegetable soup
and spaghetti with meat sauce. All of the items were quite good including the beef
tongue with tomatoes. Before you say “yuch!, tongue, try it, you will love it. Oh
yes before I forget, French fries and veggies come with all of the dinner entrees.

Although stuffed from gorging ourselves with blue cheese, bread and all of the
other “pre-meal” treats, here come’s the dinner entrees we ordered.
The Rib Eye Steak $23.25, Lamb Roast $25.25 and the Veal Taylor’s Style
$21.95 were the first set of dishes that arrived. The petite Rib Eye Steak was
thinly cut but was perfectly prepared, juicy and topped with a tasty (and not salty)
mushroom gravy while the slices of oven roasted leg of lamb was very good. The
last dish of this flight of dishes, the Veal Taylor Style consisted of thin medallions
of lamb topped with Monterey jack cheese and the same great mushroom gravy
we had with the steak.

The last set of dishes, the Poulet Basque $14.95, half of oven baked chicken
topped with a stewed like tomatoes, onions and bell peppers mixture and
Meatloaf special $14.95, a gigantic piece of meatloaf served with mashed
potatoes and gravy ended a most filling and satisfying dining experience.

No matter which dining venue you choose, you and your family will be quite
pleased. Owner Monique Berterretche and her son and daughter Joe and
Bernadette are caring people who treat everyone “like family” and are anxious
and excited to share with you their rich Basque traditions. Centro Basco also has
a full bar and many banquet rooms for your special occasions parties. See you
there!
