When looking for a good breakfast, Brandon’s Diner certainly should be considered.
These popular neighborhood eateries features a menu filled to the brim with tasty
breakfast (served all day), lunch and dinner entrees that fits into every family’s
budget.

The homey country décor sets the tone for some great grub. From the breakfast
side of the menu, I ordered the House Omelet $7.95 and the full Flapjack
(pancakes) plate $6.45. The house omelet consisted of a large 3 egg omelet stuffed
with ham, fresh mushrooms, onions and jack and cheddar cheese. The omelet was
flavorsome and came with crispy hash browns and creamy sausage gravy with
biscuits. The flapjacks featured 3 large fluffy, moist vanilla infused pancakes that had
that nice slightly chewy texture that all good pancakes should have and were
delicious.

The next set of dishes were the Chicken Melt $7.45, Liver & Onions $8.95 and the
Chile Verde $8.95. The chicken melt started off with a moist chicken breast, grilled
onions, Swiss cheese and fresh mushrooms stuffed between grilled sourdough
bread. The sandwich was okay but was kind of boring for my taste. I would have
liked a spicy horseradish or chipotle spread on it. Oh well, can’t have it all! The liver &
onions started out disastrous when the nice portion of thinly sliced beef liver came
to our table terribly overcooked. We returned it and the new liver & onions faired
much better. I think a thicker cut of liver would really improve the texture. The chile
verde was a hit!  The cubes of pork were tender and the tangy spicy green chile
sauce was delicious and seasoned just right.

My favorite dishes of the evening were the burritos. The El Matador Burrito $7.95,
was loaded with chicken (or steak), sautéed bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, cheese,
rice and beans. The fajitas-like filling had great texture and came with guacamole
and sour cream. The Burrito Supreme $6.95, featured a rich red Colorado chile
sauce with lots of chunks of tender beef. The burrito was topped with melted jack
and cheddar cheese, guacamole, sour cream and more of that terrific chile sauce.

Except for the “just okay” chicken melt and the first plate of liver, Brandon’s Diner
offers a nice variety of fresh, tasty and affordably priced dishes of food. Now-a-
days, that’s hard to find.
